Econoline Year Identification

Someday I will organize all of this, but here are some visual differences among the years.

1965-1967 hump in floor behind engine doghouse

steering column angle is different (1961-1964) & (1965-1967)

1967 dual master brake cylinder

1967 backup light standard - could be added for 1965-1966

1961-1964 engine rests on two flimsy sheet metal hangers coming from each side of the van. No cross member under the engine.

1965-1967 round tube cross member under and supporting the engine

1964 two holes in the frame to hold the transmission. One was for manual and one for automatic.

1961-1964 single bolt holding back to transmission to frame.

1965-1967 two bolts holding back of transmission to frame.

1965-1967 the 240 engine has a cable throttle system. All others had a long throttle rod.

1961-1964 vans and 1961-1967 pickups - rear bumper is notched in the center to hold the license plate.

1965-1967 van rear bumper is straight

1965-1967 license plate is mounted to back left door.

1961-1964 front bumper has four bolts across the front to attach to the brackets.

1965-1967 front bumper has two bolts across the front of bumper and two bolts on top of bumper.

1961-1964 front bumper is wider than the 1965-1967 front bumper.

1961-1964 heater has mounted to the floor under the dash. Heater controls were on the heater box.

1965-1967 heater was mounted under dash, not touching floor, suspended from the right headlight vent hole. Heater controls were mounted on the dash over the radio location.

1961-1964 doghouse is 1-1/2" shorter than 1965-1967.

1961-early 1964 has two latches on front of dog house lid

late 1964-1967 has one latch on front of dog house lid.

1967 emergency flasher switch is on steering column.

1961-mid 1966 long (4") shackles on the springs.

mid-1966 to 1967 shorter (3 1/4") shackles on the rear springs.

1961-1963 triangular shelf between steering column and dash. Two bolts holding to column are horizontal. Bolt head points towards seat.

1964 triangular shelf between steering column and dash. Two bolts holding to column are vertical. Bolt head points towards roof.

1965-1967 steering column shelf bracket is more rectangular in shape.

1961 driver door lock was optional

1961-1962 had clear plastic front turn signal lenses.

1963-1967 had amber plastic front turn signal lenses.

1961-1964 seats cushion was thicker than the 1965-1967 seats. (due to different angle of steering column)

1063-1967 Heavy Duty option was offered with thicker frame, stiffer springs, better tires, 9" rear axle.

1964-1967 automatic transmissions were available.

1961-64 - seat frame is 18 inches wide X 12.5 inches long

1965-67 - seat frame is 15 inches wide X 12.5 inches long

1961-mid 1962 - roof was flat, smooth, without the grooves that run from front to rear of the van.

1961-mid 1966 the air vents under the dash were made of metal

mid 1966-1967 the air vents under the dash were made of plastic

early 1966 padded glove box door with no lock.

early 1966 emergency flasher switch and indicator above the ashtray

1961-1964 1/2 and the 1965 Spring Specials had stainless steel side trim with inner aluminum panels.

1965-1967 (except the Spring Specials) had all aluminum side trim.

1961-February 1965 - only Falcon Deluxe Club Wagon had the side trim.

February 1965 - 1967 all Econolines and Falcons could have the narrow side trim

1962-1967 passenger vans were designated as Falcon. However, it is possible to get an Econoline window van with seats.

1961 All vans and pickups were badged as Econolines

1961-1962 data plate was mounted on door (A) pillar between door hinges at driver door.

1963-1967 data plate was mounted on the driver door near striker.
