The Vehicle Identification Number, or VIN, can be found in several locations on the 1961-1967 Econolines. The most accessible location is the dataplate, which can be found on the driver door or the driver-side A pillar. The number can be often found on a rear corner brace, the hump in the floor, or under the doghouse.
For 1961-1962, the Vehicle Identification Number or VIN was referred to as the "Serial Number." For 1963-1967, the VIN was referred to as the "Warranty Number." Thus, "Serial Number" or "Warranty Number" is printed on the dataplate.
The 1961-1962 dataplate for USA-assembled Econolines, and 1961-1965 Canadian-assembled Econolines, is riveted to the A pillar between the driver-side door hinges.
The 1963-1967 dataplate for USA-assembled Econolines is riveted to the back edge of the driver-side door near the striker.
1961 through early 1965 Econolines, and all 1961-1967 pickups, have the VIN stamped into the corner brace in front of the right rear taillight. The spare tire might need to be removed to see it. Sometimes the VIN is on the left corner brace.
For all years, the VIN should be stamped into the floor under the lip of the doghouse (engine cover). The doghouse panels have to be removed the from the floor, and the black goo that was used to seal it needs to be scraped away. This stamping is always on the front and the right sides of the opening. Sometimes the number is stamped on the left or backside of the doghouse opening.
Econoline Vans after mid-1965 (at the introduction of the SuperVans) have the number stamped on the top of the hump in the floor behind the doghouse. This number is visible without removing the doghouse.
