Econoline Driveshafts

There are several different driveshafts on the 1961-1967 Econolines due to the various combinations of transmissions and rear axles.

NOTES:

Automatic driveshafts are about 6" shorter than the corresponding manual transmission driveshafts.

1963-1964 driveshafts are about 1" longer than the 1965-1967 shafts with the same engine/transmission combo.

Length 1 (from Ford Parts Manual):

The length measurement for the one-piece driveshaft (1961-1962) is the distance between the U-joint centers.
For the Slip-Joint type, pull them apart and measure from the center of the rear U-joint to the end of the shaft.
(This does not include the short part of the shaft attached to the back of the transmission.)

Length 2: Alternative measurement

Length 3: Installed length, measured from center of U-joint to center of U-joint

Econoline U-Joints

Small U-joints were on the back of the 144/170/200 transmissions and the ftont of the 7" and 7-1/4" axles.

Large U-joints were on the back of the 240 transmissions and the front of the 9" axles.
